STATEMENT
I want to make objects that serve as a record of our times. Documenting this moment in history feels particularly pressing to me as the human race experiences catastrophic loss as a result of our unimpeded violence.
I approach this idea by means of my own personal experiences and emotions. I document the only things I can really know: my physical surroundings, my touch, and my heart.
Clay serves two functions. First, it has a quality that evokes emotionality. My forms are guided by the feelings that arise in me as I work. My premise is that clay will communicate my feelings, and evoke strong feelings in the viewer as a result. Clay can also document touch and anything else that happens to it during the making. It is a record keeper.
I want these pieces to give sanctuary to the turbulent and tender feelings we all have in these alarming times.
